Gurgaon: The Election Commission’s special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is set to begin in Haryana from June 5, kicking off a tightly scheduled exercise that will decide who makes it to the voter list ahead of the next assembly polls.In the city, the field process will start on June 15, when booth level officers (BLOs) will begin door-to-door verification, update voter details and photographs, and collect signed enumeration forms.The first phase, from June 5 to 14, will focus on training BLOs, electoral registration officers and booth level agents of political parties. After that, BLOs will fan out across the city for household verification. Gurgaon district has around 15.5 lakh registered voters.Officials said BLOs will visit every household up to three times. Voters, they said, must be ready with documents, watch the dates closely, and respond in time if any detail is missing or wrong.District election officer Uttam Singh said the three-visit rule will ensure genuine voters are not left out. “If a voter is not found at the address on all three occasions, the BLO will leave the form behind so it can be filled and submitted on time. Timeline is sacrosanct. If the voter is away during the survey, any adult family member can sign and submit the enumeration form,” he added.The revision is significant because Haryana last carried out an SIR in 2002. The exercise, officials said, is aimed at ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included. “A comprehensive campaign will be conducted under SIR 2026 so that the voter list is accurate and inclusive,” Singh said.The paperwork required will depend on the voter’s date of birth. Those born before July 1, 1987, must submit one valid personal document. Those born between July 1, 1987, and Dec 2, 2004, must provide one personal document and one document of either parent. Applicants born after Dec 2, 2004, must submit one personal document and one document each of both parents.The Election Commission has notified a list of 20 acceptable documents. Any one from the prescribed category will suffice.July 1 has been fixed as the qualifying date for this revision. That means anyone who turns 18 by July 1 will be eligible to seek inclusion in the rolls. Form 6 for new voters will be available during the exercise. Applications can also be made online through voters.eci.gov.in. Enumeration forms can be downloaded from June 15.Alongside the revision, polling stations in the district will be rationalised from June 14 to 26. Singh said the aim is to ensure that no polling station has more than 1,200 voters and that no voter has to travel more than 2km to cast a ballot. As far as possible, members of the same family and residents of the area will be attached to the same polling station.The draft electoral roll will be published on July 21. Thereafter, till Sept 18, residents can file claims and objections if names are missing, details are incorrect, or ineligible entries need to be challenged. Officials said notices will be issued in cases where names are not included, and claims will be decided on the basis of prescribed documents.To support the exercise, a 1950 helpline will operate in all district headquarters and constituencies from 7am to 9pm. The state has also asked deputy commissioners to ensure BLOs can access highrises and gated societies, especially in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonepat and Panchkula.Singh urged residents to cooperate fully with visiting officials and to check their name, address and date of birth carefully once the draft roll is published.
