Mumbai: Concerns over India’s nursing shortage and the need to strengthen the workforce dominated discussions at ANEICON 2026, the annual two-day conference of the Association of Nurse Executives India (ANEI), that began in Mumbai on Friday.Speakers highlighted that India has only 1.9 to 2.2 nurses per 1,000 population–lower than the World Health Organisation-recommended ratio of three nurses per 1,000 population. Over 600 delegates from across India attended the conference. Surgeon Rear Admiral (Dr) Manish Honwad highlighted nurses’ role in early detection and quality care, while Maharashtra health official Dr Nilima Sonawane stressed on the need to empower rural nurses through technical advancement.
