Imphal: Consumer affairs, food and public distribution (CAF&PD) director K Bono Singh, along with IOCL and PIB officials on Friday said there is enough stock of LPG and petrol/diesel in the state and urged consumers to avoid panic booking and panic buying.Speaking to the media during a joint press conference at Imphal divisional office, IOCL at Chingmeirong Sangakpham in Imphal, K Bono said the present situation in West Asia has affected the economy and petroleum products all over the globe.
“In India, due to the planned management of the available stock and the inflow of petroleum products from five countries, the impact is less. In Manipur, there is adequate stock,” he added. He said in every district, monitoring committees headed by the additional deputy commissioner/district supply officer have been set up since March 26 to prevent hoarding and malpractice, and these committees have so far conducted 224 surprise inspections, with no irregularities detected. As the govt has ensured 100% LPG and PNG supply to the education and health sector, the director said the department has also given priority to both the sectors. Besides, 13 agencies have been identified for delivering 5 kg free-trade LPG cylinders to migrant workers as a special arrangement, as is done in other parts of the country. The workers may get the cylinders through the identified agencies by approaching the department, he added. He appealed to the public to avoid misleading information that creates anxiety for panic buying of petroleum products and LPG cylinders and assured them of adequate stock availability in the state.Responding to queries over reports of shortages of fuel and LPG in Churachandpur district, the director said the govt is making special arrangements to transport petroleum products using alternative routes to the district.Transportation of petrol, diesel and LPG to the district was disrupted following the recent bomb attack at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district, where two children were killed and their mother was injured.
