Gurgaon: A traffic police personnel was sent to police lines even as a departmental probe was initiated after a Faridabad resident alleged that the former slapped him for recording a video of a burning canter near Ghata village on Tuesday afternoon. The youth — identified as Vishal — later uploaded a video of the confrontation on X, seeking action from police authorities and questioning whether a traffic policeman has the authority to slap a citizen for filming in a public place.ACP (headquarters, traffic) Satyapal Yadav said the matter was investigated and immediate action was taken against the policeman concerned.“A probe has been initiated and handed to ACP East Traffic, and the cop has been sent to police lines. All police personnel have clear instructions to behave in a citizen-friendly manner. Appropriate action will be taken on the basis of the inquiry findings,” Yadav said.Vishal, who works in installation and repair of CCTV cameras, said he came to Gurgaon for work and was passing through the Ghata area around 3pm when he spotted a canter engulfed in flames on the roadside. Curious about the incident, he stopped his motorcycle and began recording the video on his phone. The video, now circulating widely on social media, shows the traffic police personnel approaching Vishal after noticing him filming the incident. While the alleged slap is not clearly visible because of the close camera angle, the sound can be heard in the recording.Vishal alleged that the policeman shouted at him, asking why he was making a video and telling him to bring a bucket of water to help extinguish the fire. The incident triggered reactions online, with several users raising concerns over the conduct of the police personnel. Police said further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
