Gurgaon: GMDA demolished more than 15 unauthorised shops built along the multiutility corridor in Sector 90 during an anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday. Officials said the structures had been illegally constructed on land earmarked for public utilities and urban infrastructure.The drive was led by the GMDA district town planner, RS Batth, along with officials of the enforcement wing. Around 15 police personnel were deployed at the site to maintain law and order during the operation. Using earthmovers, the team cleared the encroachments and warned violators against carrying out unauthorised construction on public land.GMDA officials said utility corridors are meant for planned urban development and encroachments on such land obstruct public services and development works.A similar drive was conducted on Wednesday along master roads of sectors 50-57, 51-57 and 90-91, where the enforcement team removed illegal gates, ramps, kiosks, carts and other structures built on green belts and service roads.Officials said nearly a 1.5-km stretch along the dividing road of sectors 51-57 was cleared, while around 600 metres of encroachment was removed along the dividing road of sectors 50-57. Gates installed by residents and commercial establishments on public land were demolished during the drive.The team also razed unauthorised ramps extending onto service roads and removed carts, temporary kiosks and commercial setups occupying green belt areas.Residents and commercial establishments were directed to stop parking vehicles on green belts and use designated stilt parking spaces instead. Officials also instructed violators to remove tiles laid on green belts for parking purposes within five days.Along the sector 90-91 stretch, the team cleared shanties, commercial carts and illegal extensions by shops and restaurants built on govt land. Officials said around 1.5 km of the stretch was inspected and partially cleared, and another round of demolition is scheduled before June 7.

“An MoU has been signed for the development of green belts along the sector 90-91 corridor, but work can begin only after complete vacation of encroached land to ensure planned execution,” an official said.Batth said similar enforcement drives would continue across the city, including along the sector 44-45 master dividing road. “Any unauthorised structure on GMDA land or right of way will not be tolerated,” he said.
