LUCKNOW: Three people, including a woman and a child, were killed while five others sustained serious injuries after an SUV carrying members of a family from Delhi crashed into a stationary tractor-trolley on the Ganga Expressway near the Salon-Pratapgarh border in Raebareli district on Tuesday night.The accident took place around 11:30 pm near Mirzahanpur village on the Ganga Expressway.According to police officials, the impact of the collision was so severe that the SUV overturned after slamming into the parked vehicle.The victims had left Delhi on Tuesday afternoon and were travelling to their native village in Jaunpur district to attend a Ramcharitmanas recitation ceremony scheduled for Wednesday.Police said the occupants of the vehicle included Gurucharan Singh (35), son of Rajendra Singh; Neeraj Singh (42); Saroj Singh (58), wife of Rajendra Singh; Sangeeta Singh (22), daughter of Neeraj Singh; Samriddhi (7), daughter of Gurucharan Singh; Pratibha (30), wife of Gurucharan Singh; Savita Singh (40), wife of Neeraj Singh; and Samarth, son of Gurucharan Singh.The family members, originally residents of Dhilampur village under Sujanpur police station area in Jaunpur district, are presently based in Delhi.Gurucharan had entered the Ganga Expressway from Meerut while travelling towards Jaunpur. Saroj Singh, Sangeeta Singh and seven-year-old Samriddhi died on the spot due to severe injuries sustained in the crash. Gurucharan Singh, Pratibha, Savita Singh, Samarth and Neeraj Singh suffered serious.Circle Officer Yaduvendra Pal Singh, Inspector Balendu Gautam and police personnel rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations.The injured were shifted by ambulance to Sangramgarh Community Health Centre (CHC). Due to the critical nature of their injuries, Neeraj Singh and Samarth were referred to AIIMS Raebareli for advanced treatment.Meanwhile, family members shifted Gurucharan Singh, Pratibha and Savita Singh from Sangramgarh CHC to a private hospital for further treatment.Circle Officer Yaduvendra Pal Singh said preliminary findings suggest that the SUV collided with a vehicle standing on the roadway, leading to the accident. “Three people have died while five others have sustained injuries. The matter is being investigated,” the officer said.Police have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the tractor-trolley was stationary on the expressway.
