New Delhi: A month after a 42-year-old property dealer was found shot dead inside his car in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla, police have arrested his house help for allegedly concealing a pistol suspected to have been used in the incident. Another man, believed to have supplied the weapon, has also been arrested, even as investigators are now examining whether the death could be a case of suicide, police said.The accused have been identified as Sonu, 35, the victim’s house help, and Manit, 36.The incident was reported on March 6, when police received a PCR call around 1 pm from a passer-by who heard a gunshot and noticed a car parked in a field. The property dealer was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. At the time, police suspected the killing could be linked to a failed extortion attempt.A senior police officer said CCTV footage from the area did not show any immediate suspicious activity. During the probe, investigators found that shortly before the incident, the deceased called both his associate and Sonu. The two later reached the spot and found him with a gunshot wound.While the victim was being taken to hospital, Sonu allegedly stepped out of the car and later kept a pistol he claimed to have found inside the vehicle on his scooter, police said.Subsequent CCTV analysis showed Sonu in possession of the weapon, but he failed to explain its source during questioning. Further inquiry revealed that Manit allegedly supplied the pistol to the property dealer. “He was also arrested and claimed during interrogation that he had procured the weapon from a person in Punjab,” a police officer said.Police have arrested the accused for tampering with the crime scene and under provisions of the Arms Act. The role of at least one more person is being probed, police said.
