6 arrested for attacking police team in Kharar; weapons, vehicles seized | Chandigarh News



Mohali: Mohali Police arrested six persons who allegedly attacked a police team with sharp-edged weapons in the Sadar Kharar area. Police also recovered weapons along with a motorcycle and Scorpio vehicle used by the accused.DSP Kharar-1 Karan Singh Sandhu said acting on technical inputs and intelligence, police teams arrested six accused, identified as Gurkirat Singh alias Guri, resident of Daumajra; Davinder Singh alias Binda, resident of Allapur; Dilpreet Singh, resident of Cholta Kalan; Gurinder Singh, resident of Dungian; Harjinder Singh, resident of Sahora; and Gurinder Singh, resident of Miyapur (Ropar).According to police, the incident occurred on April 15, when two police teams were dispatched to trace anti-social elements involved in drug peddling and robbery in the area. Acting on specific inputs about suspicious persons gathering near the Bhuchi river close to Global City, a police team led by SI Gurvinder Singh reached the spot. On seeing the police, the accused allegedly attacked the team with sharp-edged weapons. Despite the sudden assault, the police managed to control the situation. A case was registered at Police Station Sadar Kharar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said the accused are habitual offenders with involvement in previous criminal and NDPS-related cases. Efforts are underway to identify their role in other incidents in the region. The remaining suspects who fled the spot are being traced and are expected to be arrested soon. The accused were produced before a court and were remanded to police custody. Officials said further disclosures are expected during interrogation, which may help uncover additional criminal activities linked to the group. Police reiterated that strict action will continue against anti-social elements involved in drug trafficking and violent crimes in Mohali.
