However, amid the thrilling contest, a section of fans was seen allegedly misbehaving with the cheerleaders during the match. According to visuals from the stadium, police officials quickly intervened and took action against the group of fans. Female police personnel were also seen speaking to the individuals involved and trying to control the situation. On the field, Shreyas Iyer produced a captain’s knock to guide Punjab Kings to a memorable win and end their six-match losing streak.Iyer celebrated passionately after completing his maiden IPL century, removing his helmet and raising his arms after sealing the victory for PBKS.The win took Punjab Kings to fourth place on the points table with 15 points from 14 matches and a net run rate of +0.309.However, Punjab have still not officially secured a playoff berth. They will now closely follow Sunday’s clash between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. If Rajasthan Royals, currently on 14 points, win the match, they will move to 16 points and go past Punjab Kings. But if Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan, then Kolkata Knight Riders will still have an outside chance of overtaking PBKS on net run rate with a massive win over Delhi Capitals.Mumbai Indians are already out of playoff contention. After the victory, Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting praised his side and especially skipper Iyer for stepping up under pressure.“We’ve done it the hard way, let’s look at it that way. We’ve done what we needed to do today. Pretty clinical chase. The captain, he’s done that all season. That’s his first IPL century tonight. We’ll sit down and celebrate. There’s a reason I spent as much money at the auction a couple of years ago (on Iyer). Delighted to work with him. The level of cricket we played in the first half was a level I’ve never seen before. Terrific player (Prabhsimran). Him and Priyansh have been outstanding for us the last couple of seasons. Seeing him play a mature innings tonight will do him a world of good. We’ll try to get the boys together and watch it (the RR-MI game),” Ponting said.
