Warangal: A 35-year-old woman was found dead in a canal at Lakshmipuram village in Duggondi mandal of Warangal district. Duggondi police suspect that an alleged extramarital affair may have led to the murder.Duggondi circle inspector (CI) M Sai Ramana said the deceased was identified as Tallapally Sumalatha. She is survived by two children. Her husband, Mahender, died four years ago due to illness.Sumalatha reportedly left her mobile phone at home and went to Warangal for shopping on Wednesday. However, she did not return to the village that evening. Her family members assumed she would return on Thursday morning.NREGA workers discovered the body of a woman near the canal on the outskirts of Lakshmipuram village and immediately alerted the police.Upon receiving the information, Duggondi police rushed to the spot. Police suspect that she was murdered and are investigating whether an alleged extramarital relationship was behind the crime. A knife was seized from the scene.Police said her bag and chappals were found in different locations, while beads from her necklace were also discovered along the route. Police described the case as a suspected murder, and special teams have been deployed to gather clues.CI Ramana said that the woman’s throat had been slit by unidentified persons. The body was shifted to Narsampet govt hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered.
