Occupancy, revenue in new Harbour AC trains rise 65-66% : Officials

Mumbai : The Central Railway witnessed growth in passengers and revenue after increasing the number of AC locals on Harbour line recently, an official said on Thursday.Introduced on January 26, 2026, the Harbour Line AC locals have drawn an encouraging response, prompting the railway to expand operations to meet demand. With effect from May 1, Central Railway added 14 more AC services on the Harbour Line. Occupancy data after the May 1 expansion shows significant growth. Comparing April 16–30 with May 1–15, the number of passengers travelling by Harbour Line AC services rose from 2.34 lakh to 3.86 lakh, a jump of 65%. Revenue earnings also climbed strongly, increasing from Rs 1.18 crore to Rs 1.96 crore, up 66%, said CR chief spokesperson Swapnil Nila.The augmentation has taken the overall AC suburban tally to 108 services across the network, comprising 80 services on the Main Line and 28 on the Harbour Line, he added.
