Canada-based married man shoots lover dead after she rejects marriage proposal; body thrown into canal

LUDHIANA: A 29-year-old woman working in the music industry was allegedly shot dead and her body thrown into a canal in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, police said on Thursday. Three accused have been arrested in connection with the murder.The victim, identified as Yashinder Kaur, had been reported missing on May 13 after she left home to buy groceries and did not return. Police later registered a murder case on May 15 after investigations revealed that she had been killed the same day she went missing.Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Ludhiana, Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, told ANI that the main accused, identified as Sukhwinder Singh, is based in Canada and was already married.According to police, Sukhwinder Singh was allegedly in a relationship with Yashinder Kaur and had been pressuring her to marry him. On the day of the incident, he allegedly called the victim to meet him. When she refused his proposal, he allegedly shot her dead.Police said the accused then disposed of her body in a canal. During the investigation, police arrested three individuals — Karamjit Singh, Ravinder Singh and Pritam Singh — for their alleged involvement in the crime.Authorities said they have recovered the murder weapon, the vehicle used in the crime, which was also found in the canal, and the victim’s body. Police have invoked Section 302 (murder) in the case.Further investigation is underway.
