City logs two more instances of post-poll violence

Kolkata: Two fresh incidents of violence were reported in the city. In the first incident, the Chitpore police registered a stringent case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following an assault on a Dalit family on Dilarjang Road. According to the complainant, a group of 10 men, including Birju Singh, Rajen Chauhan and Vicky Singh, ransacked a structure her family had set up on the footpath to operate a chicken shop. The mob physically assaulted the woman, her father and her brother, smashed their mobile phones and outraged her modesty. The attackers also hurled derogatory casteist slurs, prompting cops to hand over the probe to an assistant commissioner of police as per the law.In another incident, the family of a local fish trader was attacked by a gang of six to seven men, including Shiv Abhishek, Arpan Gaud and others. They also vandalised and looted a 64-year-old relative’s shop.The trader’s wife and her niece were also assaulted.
