Rajkot: A 61-year-old retired deputy mamlatdar, Mohan Korat, was killed in a hit-and-run in Dhari town of Amreli district on Wednesday morning, after being struck from behind by an unidentified speeding vehicle, police said.Korat, a resident of the Sardar Nagar-1 area of Dhari taluka, was out for a morning walk around 6.30am near Shivalay Complex on Chalala Road.According to the police complaint, a white car coming from the Chalala side hit Korat from behind at high speed, throwing him onto the road and causing severe head and facial injuries. The driver fled immediately after the collision.Korat’s friend, Chatur Sorathiya, called an ambulance service and Korat was taken to the govt hospital in Dhari, where doctors declared him dead.After being informed, Korat’s daughter, Shweta Korat, reached the hospital and later lodged a complaint at Dhari police station. The case has been registered under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police said the complaint alleged rash and negligent driving by the unidentified driver and fleeing the scene after causing the fatal accident. Efforts are under way to trace the vehicle and the driver using CCTV footage from nearby areas.
