Ahmedabad: A 19-year-old man has been booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 19-year-old Nepalese woman in Krishnanagar on Friday. A complaint was filed by the father of the victim, Chetna Bisht, after which the accused, Chetan Bohra, was booked.According to the victim’s father, Jiyune Bisht, 52, a farmer, Chetna began pursuing undergraduate studies in Nepal in Aug 2025. She later eloped with Chetan, and the duo came to the city in Feb this year. The two were living together in Krishnanagar, the complaint states. Chetan has been arrested for abetment, said Krishnanagar police inspector V H Joshi.The father stated in the complaint that, at first, his daughter told the family on social media that she was being treated well by Chetan. The family even discussed formalizing the relationship during Diwali and assured them that there would be a wedding when they visited Nepal next.“However, over the last one and a half months, she told our relatives that Bohra had been harassing and assaulting her. She said that he did not allow her to visit her relatives in Ahmedabad,” the father said in the complaint.The complaint further said that the victim repeated these allegations during calls made on April 24, April 27 and May 5 to family members in Nepal and relatives living in Ahmedabad. Her relatives also tried to contact Bohra, but he did not respond, the complaint states.“On May 15, the family was informed by a relative that Chetna had hanged herself at their rented residence in Krishnanagar,” the complaint states. He said he informed other relatives who rushed to the residence and found the woman dead.Police initially registered a case of accidental death. After arriving in Ahmedabad from Nepal, the victim’s father lodged a complaint, accusing Bohra of mentally and physically torturing his daughter and driving her to suicide.
