Mumbai: BJP’s Kirit Somaiya has urged the Municipal Commissioner, Mayor, and Police Commissioner not to allow goats to be slaughtered in residential complexes, housing societies and chawls on the occasion of Bakri Eid.Somaiya alleged that even after the BMC and court have imposed restrictions on several occasions, the rules are violated. The BMC should give strict instructions to all wards and officers concerned that sacrifice or slaughter of goats cannot be done in the vicinity of any settlement in Mumbai, as per the law. “There are rules of the Municipal Corporation in this regard but they are not followed, we request you to issue instructions to the concerned in this regard,” Somaiya said.According to a BMC policy, in residential societies, slaughtering can be allowed either inside a permitted place or common space provided that the society permits it and gives an NOC, for which applications have to be submitted to the assistant municipal commissioner concerned 30 days prior to Bakri Eid.
