Chandigarh: City vehicle owners will soon get a chance to secure fancy registration numbers as the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) is set to roll out the new series CH-01-DE by the end of next week.Officials said the formalities have been completed and only final stage preparations are under way. Of the total 9,999 numbers in the new series, altogether 272 have been earmarked as fancy numbers and will be allotted through e-auction.“With about 1,200 to 1,500 numbers still available in the current series, the launch plan for the new series has been finalised. The process to schedule and advertise the auction is on, and it is likely to begin by the end of this month,” sources said.The reserve price for fancy numbers will range between Rs 50,000 and Rs 5 lakh, in line with previous auctions.As in the past, the auction will be conducted entirely online. Vehicle owners must first register on the official RLA website and deposit the required fee to participate. Only those who have purchased vehicles registered at Chandigarh addresses will be eligible for the e-auction.The auction of fancy numbers remains a key revenue source for the UT administration, with authorities earning significant amounts from previous rounds.After the completion of the auction process, the CH-01-DE series will be opened for the general public, who can opt for preferred numbers by paying the prescribed fee.
