22 injured as bus overturns after collision in Zirakpur

Chandigarh: At least 22 passengers were injured after a Volvo tourist bus overturned following a collision with a truck at the Chhat traffic light in Zirakpur in the early hours of Friday. No casualty was reported.The bus, travelling from Manali to Delhi with around 45 passengers on board, was hit by a truck reportedly heading to Baddi around 3.30 am. The impact caused the bus to overturn on the road.Locals and passersby rushed to the spot and alerted the police. Zirakpur police and ambulances reached soon after, and with the help of residents, rescued trapped passengers.Of the injured, five were taken to Derabassi civil hospital while 17 were admitted to GMCH-32. Police said all were discharged after first aid.The accident led to a traffic jam on the Zirakpur–Patiala highway for some time. A crane was later used to remove the damaged vehicles and restore traffic.Truck driver Lallan Yadav, a native of Gorakhpur, claimed the bus hit his vehicle from the side, causing it to overturn. Police said CCTV footage from the highway is being examined to ascertain the sequence of events.
