Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old delivery agent working with a quick commerce company died in a road accident on Delhi-Meerut Road in Modinagar after his bike was hit by a UP roadways bus on Thursday.Vikash Kumar, a resident of Sanjaypuri Colony in Modinagar, was returning to the warehouse after completing an order when the accident occurred.ACP Modinagar Bhaskar Verma said the accident took place around 5pm. “The locals took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. We didn’t get any information from the locals and hospital about the accident,” he said. “We got to know about Kumar’s death after his family members brought his body to the police station and asked us to take action.”A senior officer said an initial investigation revealed that Kumar’s bike was hit from behind by the roadways bus. After the incident, the driver got out of the bus and fled. There were a few passengers onboard, but later, they departed for their destinations.ACP said based on the family’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against the driver under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death due to negligence) of BNS at Modinagar police station.“A team has been formed. We are checking CCTV footage to identify the driver. We have also contacted the UP Roadways regarding his details,” ACP Verma said.In another road accident, a 72-year-old contractor, Bhopal Singh, died after being hit by a GMC garbage truck at Sihani Gate.ACP Nandgram Ziauddin Ahmad said Singh left home for grocery shopping around 7.30am on Thursday. When he was crossing the road, the dumper struck him. He was seriously injured. A police team reached the spot and informed his family members.“We and his son Manoj took Singh to a hospital, from where doctors referred him to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Delhi. Bhopal Singh died during treatment at the Delhi hospital on Thursday evening,” ACP Ahmad said. “The driver, Sachin Gahlot, has been caught and we registered an FIR under BNS sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death due to negligence) at Sihani Gate police station.”
