Lucknow: Acting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath’s appeal, director, SGPGI Prof Radha Krishan Dhiman cycled from his residence to office on Thursday.He also announced a green mobility campaign inside the campus and appealed everyone to take steps to save fuel. Adding that the initiative would help conserve petroleum products, reduce pollution and improve health and fitness among staff and students, he appealed employees living within 3-4 kilometres of the campus to avoid using motor vehicles for daily commuting and adopt walking or cycling instead.“Faculty members, resident doctors, employees and students would be encouraged to avoid unnecessary use of vehicles within and around the campus and instead choose walking or cycling wherever possible. To facilitate this, the institute plans to set up seven to eight bicycle stands near key establishments across the campus,” Prof Dhiman said in an official statement.“Though we are acting on the call by our PM and CM, it will be a long-term help the institute in many ways,” he added. He also urged institute employees to follow carpooling practices to reduce the number of vehicles entering the campus and ease congestion.Describing SGPGIMS as a green campus known for its rich greenery, flora and fauna, Prof Dhiman said the institute remained committed to environmental protection and sustainable development. He added that he would continue commuting by bicycle until the situation improves, underscoring leadership by example and the institute’s resolve to promote eco-friendly mobility.
