Hyderabad: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited fresh tenders for the completion of balance works on NH-44, following termination of previous contracts for the six-laning of Bowenpally to Kallakal and Thondupally to Kothur corridor. The decision comes after persistent failure by the contractor to meet key construction milestones despite repeated interventions.While maintenance works continue at the risk and cost of the contractor, NHAI has invited bids for the balance works across the stretches, including the 17 km Kallakal–Gundlapochampally stretch, the 10.031 km Gundlapochampally–Bowenpally section, and the 11.844 km Thondupally–Kothur section through the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. To ensure timely completion, NHAI is seeking new contractors to take up the balance expansion works spanning approximately 21 km across the project corridors.The engineering scope of the balance works in the Bowenpally-Kallakal section includes nine grade-separated structures, featuring four flyovers, five vehicular underpasses, and one ROB. Beyond the main six-lane carriageway, the tender entails the construction of service and slip roads throughout the project area. The Thondupally-Kothur section includes the construction of eight underpasses as part of the six-laning works. In addition, the balance works also include the completion of remaining utility shifting, specifically Extra High Tension (EHT) lines, and water pipelines, along with tree translocation and associated works such as plantation, lighting, and foot over bridges along the Right of Way (RoW) in both the corridors.The completion period for the balance works has been set at 18 months from the date of commencement. Through this expedited balance work tendering process, NHAI is committed to minimising further delays and enhancing regional connectivity through high-quality highway infrastructure.
