Kolkata: Municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul has announced that all the 128 urban local bodies and three industrial townships in Bengal will be placed under 24×7 CCTV surveillance to combat “administrative paralysis and ensure seamless delivery of civic services”.The mandate covers 121 municipalities, seven municipal corporations and three industrial townships. High-definition monitoring systems will be linked directly to Paul’s office. The move comes after reports that many ULBs have reportedly descended into absenteeism. “The CM has directed me to maintain a strict watch,” Paul said. She also flagged “deplorable scenes” at state hospitals. “I have asked the health secretary to ensure cleanliness in all facilities,” Paul said. tnn
