Varanasi: Taking serious note of gross negligence in drain cleaning in Mahmoorganj area, municipal commissioner, Himanshu Nagpal on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the concerned executing agency, Samarth Enterprises, and also issued an adverse entry to regional junior engineer, Pankaj Patel on charges of failing to monitor and exercising negligence.Nagpal, while inspecting the roads on Dr. Usha Gupta Hospital Marg found silt accumulated at the site, following which he reprimanded the officials present at the spot. During the inspection, he also observed that several shopkeepers and building owners had encroached upon the drains by constructing permanent structures over them, which is obstructing the cleaning work. Taking a strict stance on this, the municipal commissioner formed special teams at the zonal level. He identified all such encroachers and issued them immediate warnings, stating that if encroachments are not removed even after this, fines will be imposed.
