SMC launches ‘Help Desk’ to streamline citizen services

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has launched a “Visitors Help Desk” at the office of the municipal commissioner to provide citizens with faster, more transparent, and organised access to civic services, along with improved grievance redressal.The initiative aims to make guidance, information, assistance and complaint resolution more accessible for people visiting the commissioner’s office. According to SMC, the Help Desk will function every Monday and will help ensure swift handling of representations, applications and complaints submitted by visitors.Trained staff will assist citizens by providing accurate information and directing them to the concerned departments, ensuring that queries are addressed efficiently without unnecessary delays. The desk will also accept applications and forward them promptly to the relevant departments.To enhance communication within the premises, a Public Announcement System will be used to relay important notices, awareness messages and visitor guidance. A Variable Message System (VMS) will also display digital updates related to SMC services, schemes and civic campaigns.As part of the “Surat Municipal Corporation Super Heroes Series,” citizens showing exemplary civic responsibility and participation will also be recognised by the Municipal Commissioner through the Help Desk platform.
