Shillong: Tura, the headquarters of West Garo Hills district, is being “redeveloped” with a total planned investment of around Rs 2,000 crore, CM Conrad K Sangma said after a review meeting on Tuesday to assess ongoing development works and discuss upcoming initiatives.“Our collective vision is to implement transformative infrastructure interventions that will completely revitalize the urban landscape of the town,” Sangma said. He represents the Tura constituency in the state assembly.Sangma said projects worth Rs 200 crore have already been “successfully completed, laying a solid foundation” for further works.At the meeting, officials reviewed ongoing projects with a total investment of over Rs 1,331 crore. These include the Tura Integrated Administrative Complex (Rs 165 crore), expected to be completed in phases starting September 2027, the PA Sangma Sports Complex and its West Stand, the Pa Togan Sangma Track & Field Stadium, and the Tura Technology Park.Other ongoing works include beautification of Tura Bazaar, construction of a Convention Centre, Pelga Tourist Circuits & Hospitality Complex, a working women’s hostel, heliport development, and the Tura water supply scheme.Projects worth Rs 242.74 crore that are ready for tender were also reviewed.Other planned works include the Chief Minister’s Youth Center, renovation of the Circuit House, a commercial complex, installation of street lighting, and development of sports facilities at Kendriya Vidyalaya.“Projects at the conceptual stage, estimated at Rs 155 crore, include affordable housing, an archery complex, and additional commercial infrastructure,” an official said, adding that the CM stressed the need for timely completion of projects and better coordination between departments.
