PWD deploys quick reaction teams across 13 districts for monsoon emergencies

New Delhi: In a bid to improve emergency response during storms and monsoon season, Public Works Department (PWD) has deployed officials for quick reaction teams (QRTs) across all 13 districts of Delhi to respond to incidents such as uprooted trees, blocked roads and weather-related disruptions caused by heavy rain and strong winds. The QRTs have been constituted under Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), with PWD deputing 39 assistant engineers as team leaders. Officials said the teams will function in three eight-hour shifts to ensure round-the-clock response during high-risk periods, particularly during the monsoon season. The arrangement will remain in force until further orders.According to the official order issued following directions from the ACS (revenue)-cum-divisional commissioner, each district has been asked to operationalise QRTs with immediate effect under DDMA framework.“These teams shall be responsible for ensuring prompt response to emergencies arising due to fallen and uprooted trees, facilitating their removal,” the order stated.Officials said the move is aimed at reducing response time during extreme weather events, which often lead to traffic congestion, road blockages and safety hazards across the city.
