Ludhiana: A late-night food delivery driver was bludgeoned and robbed of his earnings on Friday, the latest in a series of violent street crimes targeting the city’s vulnerable overnight workforce.Gagan Pal was travelling from Shivpuri toward the Jalandhar Bypass at 11.15pm when three men intercepted him near the Daresi area and struck him with a blunt weapon before seizing his smartphone and ₹5,000 in cash. “We work overnight to provide for our families, but now our lives are at risk,” said Pal, whose phone instalments were not fully paid yet.Pal tried to pursue the attackers, but they fled after threatening to kill him. Despite his injuries, he managed to record the motorcycle’s registration number and reported the incident to police using a passerby’s phone.Division No 4 police have registered a complaint and are using the vehicle details to trace the suspects. The robbing of Gagan Pal follows a string of similar incidents across Ludhiana this week, signalling a sharp rise in opportunistic street crime.On Thursday, a bank employee had her purse and vault keys snatched near Chand Cinema and three suspects robbed a woman of her gold chain in Model Town Extension. On Friday, a hosiery manufacturer was robbed of his phone outside his factory in New Shivpuri.
