Ahmedabad: A three-member team from the Directorate of Forensic Sciences (DFS), Gandhinagar, visited the crime scene in Kolkata in the Chandranath Rath murder case, sources said. The team is expected to assist investigators with ballistics analysis.Rath was the personal assistant to Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP leader who was sworn in as West Bengal Chief Minister on Saturday. He was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Wednesday night while returning home. The driver of the vehicle sustained four gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition.Sources close to the development said that the primary task for the investigators will be to establish the weapon used in the incident, link it to the suspects, ascertain the angles from which the shots were fired during the reconstruction and analysing bullet residue and other ballistic evidence.A Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by an inspector general of police (IGP)-rank officer, has already been constituted to probe the incident, which occurred days after the BJP’s maiden victory in West Bengal. It remains unclear whether the DFS team has been asked to submit a formal report to the SIT, sources said.
