Saini attacks Mann govt over drugs, law and order

Chandigarh: In yet another attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP govt in Punjab, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini said on Friday that the situation in the state was “deteriorating fast” and it was “worse than West Bengal”.The Bhagwant Mann govt has completely failed to control the drug menace, illegal mining and the collapsing law and order situation, said Saini, adding that people of Punjab were disillusioned with the Aam Aadmi Party.Interacting with mediapersons after the launch of the auto building plan approval system, a digital platform for approval of building plans for residential units falling in the jurisdiction of civic bodies, Saini said the electorate in Punjab was looking forward to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.He also disbursed the monthly instalments of social security pensions, scholarships for Scheduled Caste students, and payments under the Bhavantar Yojna.Regarding Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to resign as chief minister after the West Bengal election defeat, Saini said, “This is a strange system the opposition has adopted; despite being voted out, they are not ready to leave the chair.”During her time as CM in West Bengal, atrocities against common people became rampant, people were murdered, and FIRs were not even registered by the police. Punjab is now witnessing similar conditions, claimed Saini.Drug menace and law and order in Punjab are completely beyond the control of the govt, said the Haryana CM.He also flayed Mann and Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav over the recent blasts in Punjab. Saini said while CM Mann claimed to have no knowledge of the matter, the Punjab DGP indicated possible links with the ISI.He further said the Punjab govt was “merely pretending” to control drug trafficking and illegal mining. The AAP-led Punjab govt is much ahead of the Congress when it comes to corruption, Saini added. He further said once the BJP forms govt in Punjab, the welfare schemes being implemented in Haryana would also be introduced in Punjab.Responding to objections raised by the opposition regarding his frequent visits to Punjab, Saini said people of Punjab invited him to their programmes and questioned why the opposition was uncomfortable with it.Saini also highlighted that despite the promises made by the AAP, women in Punjab had yet to receive the financial assistance. He claimed that after Haryana allocated Rs 6,500 crore for women-centric schemes in the current budget, the Punjab govt hurriedly announced similar benefits in the Vidhan Sabha “merely for optics”. The reality is that not a single woman has received any benefit so far, Saini added. When asked about the AAP Rajya Sabha MPs switching allegiance to the BJP, Saini said those parliamentarians had spoken in favour of women’s dignity and supported the Women’s Reservation Bill introduced by the central govt. But Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann did not want the legislation promoting women’s dignity to be passed. The MPs who left the AAP followed the voice of their conscience and freed themselves from Kejriwal’s leadership, he said.He further said several senior leaders had earlier left the AAP to save themselves. Even AAP MLAs in Punjab feel suffocated within the party and are looking for an exit route, the Haryana CM added.MSID:: 130961596 413 |
