After 48-hour disruption, water to SoBo areas restored in Mumbai

MUMBAI: After over 48 hours of severe disruption in water supply across parts of South and Central Mumbai, the BMC on Friday evening said it had successfully completed repairs on the damaged 1,650-mm main water pipeline on Dr E Moses Road in Mahalaxmi and began restoring supply to affected areas. The massive pipeline, located nearly 15 feet underground, had developed a major crack on Wednesday evening, triggering large-scale water cuts across wards, including areas of Mumbai Central, Tardeo, Agripada, Kamathipura and Saat Rasta.Civic officials said repair teams worked continuously for 44 hours under “highly challenging conditions” to restore the line ahead of schedule. Water supply resumed partially on Friday evening, and is expected to return fully to normal from Saturday. Around 40 engineers and workers from the hydraulic engineer’s department worked to reapir the pipeline. Samajwadi Party corporator Amreen Shehzad Abhrani from Agripada said the situation was particularly difficult on Friday as several mosques required tanker water arrangements for prayers.
