Rajkot airport director’s stint lasts 23 days, transferred to Indore

Rajkot: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has transferred Rajkot airport director Dhananjay Kumar Singh to Indore airport, barely a month after he took charge.According to an official order issued by AAI headquarters on Nov 4, Sanjay Agrawal, joint general manager (CNS), was assigned the charge of airport director following Singh’s repatriation to parent cadre, directorate of commercial. An order issued by AAI on Nov 5 stated that Singh has been posted as director at Indore airport with immediate effect. At Rajkot, the new arrangement will continue until a regular incumbent is appointed or further orders are issued, the Nov 4 order stated.According to Rajkot airport sources, Singh took charge as airport director on Oct 12 on transfer from Jamnagar airport. His sudden transfer in less than a month’s time has surprised airport staff. While the official order does not specify any reason for his repatriation, employees have linked the move to two or three recent incidents at the airport. On Oct 28, firecrackers were burst near the runway to disperse birds and prevent bird hits. The exercise triggered a small fire in the grass near the runway, prompting authorities to divert a flight arriving from Delhi to another airport. Some senior officials of the civil aviation department were travelling on the flight and reportedly viewed the incident as negligence on the part of the Rajkot airport administration, said sources. In another incident, cargo handlers at Rajkot airport circulated a video showing water leakage in the cargo area and raising concerns over the facility’s maintenance.
