Lucknow/Varanasi: Ahmedabad-based Arvind Ltd’s Rs 150-crore textile manufacturing unit in Varanasi is expected to generate 1,000 jobs, with over 300 women already recruited and undergoing training ahead of production, an official spokesperson said on Thursday.Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Oct 25, the 6-acre facility is located at Khochwan in Mirzamurad and will manufacture sportswear and innerwear for leading global brands. The project is expected to strengthen Varanasi’s presence in the textile and garment manufacturing sector. The unit was facilitated by Invest UP, which coordinated with the company, district administration and various departments to secure key approvals and statutory clearances in around 21 days. These included Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate from the UP Pollution Control Board, Fire NOC, groundwater NOC, permission under Section 80, factory registration and building map approval. The Varanasi district administration also helped resolve land-related issues, expedite Section 80 permission and coordinate with state and district authorities for groundwater clearance.Invest UP provided end-to-end investor handholding, monitoring applications and following up with departments to address procedural bottlenecks. The project involved multiple statutory authorities, each with separate documentation and approval requirements. The facility marks another investment commitment translating into an operational industrial project in UP, with a significant focus on women’s employment. The recruitment of over 300 women for training ahead of the unit’s operations also points to the potential for greater female workforce participation in the region’s manufacturing sector.
