Pune: A 25-year-old engineer died after he came under the wheels of a container truck in front of War Cemetery on Mula Road in Khadki late on Wednesday night.Police sub-inspector Feroz Shaikh of Khadki police said the accident happened around 11.15pm, when the victim, Nikhil Kulkarni, was returning home from work. “We have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the container truck driver.”Kulkarni worked at an IT company in Aundh and commuted by scooter. On Wednesday, after finishing work, he was returning to Lohegaon via Mula Road. When he reached War Cemetery, a container truck tried to overtake him from the left. While Kulkarni tried to manoeuvre his two-wheeler to avoid being hit by the truck, a scooter coming from the opposite direction brushed against his scooter. “He lost control and fell off his scooter. He came under the container truck’s rear wheel and was dragged for at least 20 feet along with the container and sustained severe abdominal injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead,” Shaikh said.
