Lucknow: The executive council of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Friday decided to constitute a six-member disciplinary action committee to examine the report of the Special Task Force (STF) submitted to the state govt in connection with allegations involving faculty members and employees, including claims related to religious conversion, harassment and sexual exploitation. The decision was taken at a special meeting of the executive council after the STF report, received through the state medical education department on Oct 30, was presented by the registrar.“Appeals submitted by some employees and teachers were also placed before the council and discussed in detail,” KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said.According to the council’s resolution, the committee will examine the cases of all employees and faculty members named in the STF report, review the agency’s observations and consider the representations submitted by the individuals concerned before submitting its report to the executive council for further action according to the university statutes. The six-member panel will be chaired by the vice-chancellor, while the registrar will serve as member secretary.Four other members will be nominated by the EC. These will include two faculty members from KGMU and two senior administrative officers, preferably retired IPS officers. The executive council noted that the state govt’s communication urged the university to proceed in accordance with the provisions of the KGMU Act and statutes and take further action.Accordingly, it decided to invoke the disciplinary mechanism provided under Chapter XI of the KGMU Statutes, 2011.The move follows a govt directive to KGMU to act on an STF report that flagged allegations of harassment, sexual exploitation, pressure for religious conversion and suppression of complaints involving faculty members and employees across multiple departments. The report, based on complaints from at least 11 individuals, including resident doctors and nursing staff, also referred to two FIRs lodged in Dec 2025 and recommended departmental action against those found prima facie connected to the allegations.“Any disciplinary action, if warranted, will be considered after the committee submits its report,” said Prof KK Singh.Verify STF findings before action: KGMU teachers’ assnKGMU Teachers’ Association has urged the university administration to verify facts mentioned in the STF report before taking any action against faculty members. In a letter to vice-chancellor Dr Soniya Nityanand, the association said some names, departments and designations cited in the report did not match official records and require verification.Association’s general secretary Dr Santosh Kumar, in a letter dated Nov 5, raised objections to references concerning several faculty members. The issue was discussed on Friday in the association’s general body meeting attended by around 200 teachers. A record of the discussions has been submitted to the vice-chancellor, registrar and executive council members.
