Fathers join anganwadi meetings, boost community oversight
Fathers, grandfathers and other family members participate in a monthly Parents-Anganwadi Workers meeting, Friday

Jaipur: Fathers, grandfathers and uncles are increasingly attending monthly Parents-Anganwadi Workers (PAM) meetings across Rajasthan, strengthening parental involvement in child nutrition, hygiene and the functioning of anganwadi centres.Launched in July 2026, the initiative covers around 63,000 anganwadi centres across 41 districts. Women and Child Development Department organises the meetings every month on Amavasya under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).The theme of Friday’s meeting was ‘Cleanliness and Good Habits’, with parents encouraged to teach children basic hygiene practices such as handwashing, bathing, brushing, nail trimming and keeping their surroundings clean. An ICDS official said greater participation by male family members had improved community engagement and oversight. Parents were increasingly aware of children’s food, learning and activities at the centres, while issues related to nutrition and infrastructure were also reaching community members and political representatives.Anganwadi centres cater to children from diverse backgrounds, including families of farmers, labourers and economically weaker sections. Officials said greater parental involvement would help reinforce learning and healthy habits at home.
