Guwahati: Assam has moved from a past marked by gunfire and violence to aspiring for development at the speed of a bullet train, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday. In a social media post, Sarma highlighted the state’s transformation in terms of peace, connectivity and development.“An Assam that once trembled at the sound of gun bullets is today dreaming of moving ahead at the speed of a development bullet train,” he said.Sarma recalled that travelling from Assam to New Delhi once took 30 to 36 hours, saying the state was now looking towards faster connectivity and greater opportunities. “An Assam that once undertook a long journey of 30-36 hours to reach Delhi is today standing at the doorstep of faster connectivity, development and new possibilities,” he said.Sarma said the transformation went beyond improvements in transport infrastructure and reflected a fundamental change in the state’s identity and future.“This is not merely a change in transportation. It is a transformation of Assam’s identity and future,” he said.Describing the state’s journey as one from “gun bullets to bullet trains”, Sarma said Assam was overcoming a past marked by fear and terror to move towards a new horizon of progress. The chief minister has frequently cited peace, improved connectivity and infrastructure development as key indicators of Assam’s transformation, with the state govt pushing for greater integration of the northeast with the rest of the country.
