Gandhinagar: State vigilance commission and industries commissionerate on Thursday organised a state-level workshop in Gandhinagar, urging govt departments and public sector undertakings to strengthen preventive vigilance and ensure greater transparency in procurement procedures to curb irregularities.Held as part of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, the workshop was themed ‘Preventive Vigilance in Government Procurement’. Senior administrative officers, heads of departments, heads of boards and corporations, and Class I and II procurement officers attended the programme, an official statement said. The sessions focused on plugging procedural loopholes in govt purchases, with particular emphasis on strict compliance with e-tendering thresholds, effective use of govt e-marketplace (GeM) and proper verification of content claims under the Make In India initiative.Officials were also cautioned against splitting procurement quantities to bypass prescribed procedures and clubbing unrelated items in a single tender, practices that can undermine competition and transparency.Moving beyond a reactive approach of investigating irregularities after they occur, the workshop emphasised preventive vigilance through stronger procurement protocols and institutional safeguards. It sought to help procurement officers avoid administrative delays and audit objections while ensuring that govt purchases adhere to prescribed rules and remain transparent and accountable, the statement added.
