How Interpol notice, int’l chase ended with rape accused’s extradition
A 38-year-old senior manager at a jewellery company allegedly used another person’s identity documents to check into a Karol Bagh hotel after sexually assaulting a 20-year-old colleague, in Oct last year.

New Delhi: For months, a sexual assault complaint lodged by a young employee appeared to have hit a dead end after the accused senior manager left India. This week, however, the case came full circle with his extradition from the UAE following a coordinated international effort. The accused, Sajeer Palli Mooppan alias Sajeer PM (38), a senior manager at a jewellery company and a native of Kannur in Kerala, was brought back to India after Delhi Police tracked him to Dubai, where he had allegedly taken up a job at a plumbing accessories shop.According to police, the case traces back to the night of Oct 1, 2025, when employees of the company attended a birthday gathering in Punjabi Bagh.“The gathering was organised at a lounge in Punjabi Bagh and attended by several employees. Sajeer, then working as a manager, allegedly made the 20-year-old employee consume alcohol and intoxicating substances before taking her to a hotel in Karol Bagh, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her in the early hours of Oct 2, 2025,” Special CP (Law and Order) Devesh Srivastava said.Investigators alleged that Sajeer checked into the hotel using the identity documents of another person. The woman initially approached the company’s management rather than the police. Acting on her complaint, the firm reportedly started an inquiry through its internal committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) framework.“The company issued a show-cause notice to Sajeer on Oct 4, 2025 and initiated proceedings through its internal committee. However, he did not participate in the inquiry and remained absent from work from that day. The woman subsequently sent another formal complaint to the company on Dec 18,” Srivastava said.By then, police said, Sajeer had allegedly begun preparing to leave the country. He flew to the UAE on Jan 5, 2026.The woman approached Delhi Police on Feb 18, following which an FIR was registered at Karol Bagh police station under sections relating to rape, administering intoxicants and cheating by personation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Investigators collected CCTV footage, hotel records, identity documents and other evidence from the lounge and hotel. When a police team reached Kerala to trace the accused, it found he had already left India.Technical investigation established his presence in the UAE. Delhi Police subsequently initiated international tracing proceedings through Bharatpol on April 30 and secured an Interpol Red Corner Notice on July 7.Officials said Sajeer’s extradition was secured through coordinated efforts by Delhi Police, Interpol, the CBI and the ministries of home affairs and external affairs, bringing to a close a months-long international pursuit.
