Devotees offer prayers at Gurdwara Yahiyaganj on Tuesday

Lucknow: Devotees thronged gurdwaras on Baisakhi and Khaalsa Saajna Diwas on Tuesday, offering prayers and celebrating the festival with traditional fervour.Baisakhi is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the Sikh Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699, while also marking the Sikh New Year and the harvest festival of Punjab, when farmers celebrate the reaping of the rabi crop.At Yahiyaganj gurdwara, the day began with recitations from the Guru Granth Sahib, followed by kirtans and hymns that created a serene atmosphere. Many devotees sat in quiet reflection as ragis sang verses invoking peace and gratitude. Head priest Paramjeet Singh spoke about Khalsa Sajna Diwas and said, “The Sikh panth was established to protect religion and serve humanity.”At Naka gurdwara, priest Gurpreet Singh said, “It’s a day that reminds us to be thankful and stay grounded.” Lassi was served as prasad, while langar was organised for devotees later in the day.The festive spirit extended to homes as well. Charanpal Kaur, a resident of Ashiyana, said, “I prepared meethe chawal and kada prasad, and along with my children decorated the house with lights and flowers to welcome the new year with joy.”Himanshi Chadda, a resident of Naka, said that she prepared makke ki roti, dal makhni and meethe chawal, and visited a gurdwara to pray for prosperity, joy, good health and peace.
