CWG 2030: SVP Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad to get world-class aquatics centre
The centre will have internationally compliant pools, including an Olympic competition pool, a dedicated diving pool and a warm-up and training pool

Gandhinagar: The proposed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Sports Enclave will house a world-class aquatics centre featuring three internationally compliant pools, including an Olympic competition pool, a dedicated diving pool and a warm-up and training pool. Designed to meet World Aquatics Bureau standards, the facility is envisioned as a flagship venue for international swimming, diving and other aquatic competitions.Located near the Sabarmati riverfront zone, the proposed centre is being developed as part of SVP Sports Enclave, the primary hub of CWG 2030. Estimated to cost between Rs 5,050 crore and Rs 6,000 crore, it is being developed in two phases, with facilities for more than 50 Olympic sports.“The facility will combine high-performance sporting infrastructure with public accessibility. The design incorporates landscaped public plazas and open spaces connecting it to the surrounding parklands and the larger sports zone,” said an official associated with the project.Beyond the three pools, the centre will have dedicated preparation and recovery areas for athletes, wellness facilities, changing rooms and operational and administrative spaces. It will also have broadcast infrastructure and venue management facilities to support large-scale events. “The venue’s planning also focuses on ensuring smooth movement and segregation of athletes, spectators and operational personnel, while providing facilities suited to international competitions,” a source said.Officials said that apart from hosting international swimming, diving and aquatic competitions, the venue will be built for long-term use. “It will accommodate learn-to-swim programmes, community recreation and grassroots aquatic development. This is expected to allow the facility to remain accessible for public use and athlete training beyond major sporting events,” said an official.State govt has conducted technical studies of the sports enclave with national and international experts. “Assessments covering design, engineering, cost planning and operational requirements have been carried out to align the project with global best practices and international sporting standards,” the official said.Sources added that supporting infrastructure projects are also progressing across the proposed sports zone, including modifications to utility networks and improvements to connectivity to integrate the enclave with Ahmedabad’s wider urban and transport infrastructure.
