CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu registration department recorded a revenue collection of Rs 1,950 crore for the month of October 2026, marking an increase of Rs 147 crore compared to the Rs1,803 crore collected during the same month last year.Minister for commercial taxes and registration D Logesh Tamilselvan chaired a state-level monthly performance review meeting on Wednesday and directed officials to plug revenue leakages and ensure that the department meets its annual fiscal targets.Highlighting the rapid adoption of digital initiatives in the department, the minister noted that the ‘presence-less’ registration system-launched on Aug 17, 2026-has processed 2,46,260 documents as of Nov 3. These include primary sale deeds for plots and apartments, Memorandum of Deposit of Title Deeds (MODT) for banks and financial institutions, and payment receipts, all completed without requiring citizens to visit sub-registrar offices in person.Taking stock of pending registrations across the state, the minister instructed district registrars to clear bottlenecks and strictly ensure that registered documents are handed over to applicants on the very same day of registration.Prior to the review session, the minister inaugurated a dedicated AI-powered application for the department’s legal wing. The tool will track ongoing cases in the Supreme Court and high courts, assist officials in drafting timely counter-affidavits, and streamline legal follow-ups.The review meeting was attended by commercial taxes and registration secretary J Kumaragurubaran, district registrars (administration and audit), special deputy collectors (stamps), and assistant executive engineers.
