Gujcet results: Over 52k students unable to secure minimum requirement of 40th percentile

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Monday announced the results of the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET) alongside the Class 12 science outcomes. The results revealed that 52,757 students out of the 1,32,319 who appeared for the exam, were unable to secure even the 40th percentile, pointing to challenges in meeting basic qualifying benchmarks.The entrance test, conducted on March 29, is key for admissions to engineering and pharmacy courses in Gujarat.According to officials, top scorers performed strongly, with 1,459 students achieving above the 99th percentile. This group included 695 students from Group A (engineering) and 764 from Group B (pharmacy). Additionally, 13,410 candidates scored above the 90th percentile. Gender-wise participation showed 71,086 boys and 61,233 girls appearing for the exam.Officials said that, out of 58,507 students who registered for Group A, 56,865 appeared, while Group B saw 77,182 registrations, of which 75,188 candidates appeared. In Group AB, 382 students registered, of whom 266 took the exam.Those who failed to cross the 40th percentile mark, including 22,812 from Group A and 29,945 from Group B. The figures underline a wide gap between high achievers and a large section of candidates struggling to meet minimum performance standards.Officials said the results would play a crucial role in determining admissions to professional courses, even as educators flagged the need for academic support to help students improve foundational understanding in core subjects. Out of 1,36,071 students who registered for the examination, 1,32,319 appeared, while 3,752 candidates remained absent.
