CHANDIGARH: Taking aim at Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on his home turf while he campaigns for the BJP in neighbouring Punjab, the Haryana Pradesh Congress on Tuesday launched the third phase of its statewide ‘Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao Chaupal’ campaign from Mangoli Jather, Saini’s ancestral village in his Ladwa assembly constituency. The three-week campaign, scheduled from November 3 to 25, aims to take the party’s message on electoral integrity and constitutional rights to every polling booth in Haryana. By launching the campaign in the chief minister’s home constituency in the GT Road belt, the Congress sought to send a political message while Saini was away campaigning in Punjab.Addressing a public gathering in Mangoli Jather, senior Congress leaders raised questions about constitutional institutions and the electoral process. AICC in-charge of Haryana Sanjay Dutt questioned the Centre’s decision to change the selection committee for appointing Election Commissioners by replacing the Chief Justice of India with a Cabinet minister. He also raised concerns over the legal immunity granted to election officials under the 2023 EC Act after their tenure.Former Ladwa MLA Chaudhary Mewa Singh, MP Deepender Hooda and Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh also addressed the gathering. They called for transparent investigations into alleged deletions from electoral rolls and irregularities during the 2024 elections. As part of the campaign, the Congress announced the formation of specialised ‘Vote Rakshak’ teams at the booth level. The teams will audit voter lists, help citizens challenge wrongful deletions and hold village-level chaupal discussions on constitutional protections under Article 326.The statewide campaign will cover all districts and polling booths in Haryana by November 25.
