Guwahati: Assam Police recreated the crime scene at Hotel Bilas Inn on Monday, days after five people were killed and one injured in a shooting there.Police took accused Ghanakanta Gogoi (34) to the hotel in Ulubari under heavy security. His seven-day police remand ends on Tuesday, when he will be produced before the chief judicial magistrate’s court.During the reconstruction, Gogoi was taken inside the hotel, where he allegedly shot four victims, and to a narrow lane outside, where he allegedly fired at two others, including the lone survivor. He reportedly pointed out locations and explained the sequence of events as police used dummies to recreate the incident. The exercise was videographed, while access to the premises was restricted.The victims were identified as hotel co-owner Bhudev Bharali (65), his sister Helena (58), her son Debarshi Kashyap (39), daughter-in-law Rinika Kashyap (30), and family staffer Narayan Das (48). Driver Satyendra Pathak (43) was injured and is undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.Police said the firing followed a financial dispute between the Bharali family and Gogoi, who leased the hotel from them on Sept 10 last year for around Rs 1.8 lakh a month. An argument allegedly escalated before the scheduled meeting on Oct 26 could start.Gogoi surrendered at Basistha police station and was arrested with a licensed .32-bore pistol allegedly used in the shooting. An SIT is probing the case.
