Man fires at own house to seek police cover, 3 held

Noida: A week-long investigation, involving the examination of more than 100 CCTV cameras, exposed an alleged conspiracy in Dadri in which a man orchestrated firing outside his own house to implicate a rival in a false criminal case and seek security cover. Police arrested the complainant’s son, nephew and brother-in-law, who allegedly carried out the firing using illegal firearms.According to DCP (Greater Noida) Shravan Kumar, on Oct 25, Harendra Nagar was shot at outside his house by multiple assailants, with the incident being caught on CCTV cameras. Nagar then approached Dadri police station and filed a complaint alleging the involvement of his neighbour Vikas Sain. An FIR was registered under BNS sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the public peace) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation).Investigation, however, led cops back to Nagar himself. On Monday, cops arrested Nagar’s nephew Prateek alias Kalua (26), his brother-in-law Atul Bhati (29) and his son Abhishek Nagar (25) from the Bisahda underpass.Police seized an illegal country-made pistol of .315 bore, two live cartridges of the same bore, a black Splendor motorcycle allegedly used in the incident and a CP Plus company DVR from the accused’s possession.Additional BNS sections – including 212 (furnishing false information), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), 248(B) (false charge of offence made with intent to injure), 217 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to injury of another person) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) – along with sections 3, 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, were added to the FIR.The DCP said that Nagar had hatched a conspiracy to have Sain arrested by implicating him in a serious crime due to some enmity between the two. Nagar had allegedly conspired with five people, including the three arrested accused, to carry out the firing.Police are investigating the roles of the remaining people allegedly involved in the conspiracy and the circumstances under which the false complaint was lodged, the DCP added.Police added that Atul Bhati has several previous criminal cases registered against him. His alleged criminal record includes cases of assault, rioting, house trespass, theft and robbery registered at Dadri, Surajpur and Beta-2 police stations between 2016 and 2024.
