Ahmedabad: With Diwali approaching, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stepped up inspections of units making sweets and farsan. On Friday, its health and food department sealed four farsan and food-product units, after inspections found violations related to used burnt cooking oil, hygiene, flooring and food-packet labelling. One of the sealed units, Swastik Foods at Maheshwari Estate on Dudheshwar Road in Shahibaug, did not have arrangements to dispose of burnt edible oil generated during frying. It also lacked an agreement with an authorised disposal agency. Officials found improper flooring at the unit and noted that workers involved in food production were not following personal hygiene norms.Shyam Sundar Food Product, also located at Maheshwari Estate, was sealed for violating food-packet labelling requirements, failing to ensure proper disposal of used burnt oil and maintaining unhygienic conditions. On Gandhi Road, the civic body sealed two more units — Prakashkumar Kanaiyalal and Amratlal Kuberdas Namkeenwala — after finding unsanitary conditions and inadequate systems for disposing of used cooking oil.The action came as the health and solid waste management committee reviewed preparations for Diwali during its meeting on Friday. Officials were directed to arrange cleaning and garbage collection twice a day during the festival, keep urban health centres operational and ensure emergency medical services for citizens. The committee also asked officials to increase the collection of samples of sweets and farsan from across the city during the festive season.
