Sec 45 firing: Suspects conducted recce, constable was not target

Gurgaon: Investigators probing the Sector 45 firing incident have found that members of the accused gang conducted a recce of the target house and its occupant, Saurabh Yadav, a former associate of singer Rahul Yadav alias Fazilpuria, days before the attack.Investigators said that Deepak Nandal, a wanted gangster who was accused of firing at Fazilpuria last year and allegedly killing his associate Rohit Shokeen, also had a financial dispute with Saurabh Yadav. According to a police officer, Nandal used to work with the singer, and since Saurabh was the singer’s event manager, he was in contact with Nandal as well. Saurabh stopped working with Fazilpuria a few months before the attack on the singer last year. Because of their past financial dispute, Saurabh is now under threat from Nandal.Police have also detained a few suspects who are believed to have either supplied weapons or assisted in the reconnaissance, sources said.According to investigators, the two shooters, who remain at large, had not intended to target the police constable deployed at the residence. “The plan was to open fire outside the house as an act of intimidation. Stray bullets hit the constable, but he was not the intended target,” an officer familiar with the probe said. Two bullets grazed the constable during the incident.Police said the detained suspects are being questioned to establish the full chain of events leading up to the attack, including logistical support provided to the shooters and the role of other gang members. Teams are also working to identify the exact movements of the assailants before and after the firing.Late on Saturday night, two attackers opened fire outside a house in Sector 45 before escaping. Constable Kulbir, who was on security duty, was injured in his hand and leg and taken to the hospital. Police said he is now out of danger.Investigators have already named Deepak Nandal as the key accused. Police suspect the firing was carried out at Nandal’s behest as part of an intimidation attempt.Officials said efforts are underway to trace the shooters, with multiple police teams conducting raids at suspected hideouts. Police are also analysing digital evidence and verifying a social media post that claimed responsibility for the attack.A case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the BNS and the Arms Act was registered at Sector 40 police station.
