Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh govt has doubled milk incentive for eligible milk producers supplying milk to non-govt dairy cooperative societies from Rs 3 to Rs 6 per litre, earmarking Rs 14 crore for the scheme. The decision aims to boost farmers’ income, strengthen the rural economy and make dairy farming a sustainable livelihood, particularly in remote areas. Under the enhanced Milk Incentive Scheme, eligible producers will receive the incentive through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).The scheme was introduced to extend financial assistance to milk producers associated with private dairy cooperative societies that were unable to provide similar support due to financial constraints. State chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the enhancement would provide additional financial support to dairy farmers and extend the benefits of the state’s dairy development initiatives to more farming families. He said the govt was committed to making agriculture and allied activities, including dairy farming, economically viable, especially for small and marginal farmers.CM Sukhu said further farmer-friendly initiatives would focus on increasing milk production, strengthening cooperative institutions, generating rural employment and creating sustainable income opportunities for farming families across Himachal Pradesh.
