Motha yet to take call on ULB polls

Agartala: TIPRA Motha, the ruling BJP’s ally in Tripura, is yet to decide whether it will contest the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections expected next month. After a meeting on Wednesday, Motha leader and minister of state in Manik Saha’s cabinet, Brishaketu Debbarma, said the party leadership is focused on securing pending commitments from the central govt and on implementing the tripartite agreement signed for tribal empowerment. He said top leaders are discussing outstanding assurances, future political strategy and the training of elected representatives. Debbarma said the meeting also examined ways to ensure implementation of the rights and entitlements the party has sought, including the timeline for the Centre to meet its commitments and the steps Motha should take going forward.Debbarma said the local body elections were discussed, but the party has not formalised a decision on participation. He said the election schedule has not been released and that a final call would be taken only after the polls are officially announced, after which the party would make its position public. For now, he said, Motha is weighing organisational priorities alongside the status of central commitments.
