Chandigarh: Haryana energy and labour minister Anil Vij on Monday criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing the opposition of abandoning political decency by insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dragging his family into political discourse.Addressing party workers after burning an effigy of the Congress chief in Ambala Cantt, Vij warned that the country will never tolerate disrespect towards the Prime Minister. Condemning the opposition’s “change of regime” slogans, Vij asserted that attempts to trigger anarchy in the guise of political protest will be firmly resisted on Indian soil.Taking direct aim at attacks targeting the Prime Minister’s humble origins, Vij said disparaging a tea vendor mocks millions of hardworking citizens, labourers, and rickshaw-pullers. “Democracy’s true beauty is that anyone from the grassroots can rise to the highest office, unlike dynastic politics,” he said, adding that dragging parents into political attacks violates India’s cultural ethos of respecting elders.Vij claimed that the public has rejected Congress across 22 states, leaving the opposition “frustrated and mentally unstable“.Expressing concern over the opposition’s proposed November 1 rally in Delhi, Vij alleged that such mass gatherings risk inciting unrest. He urged Congress leaders to watch their language and conduct, warning that the public would not forgive those who undermine the nation’s dignity and cultural values.
